Painting a lighthouse is a challenge in itself, but when it is the iconic 14 metre tall Cape Brett lighthouse attracting international visitors and located on an isolated headland, the challenge is even more daunting.
With isolation comes complicated logistics. Nearly 50 tonnes of equipment was barged out to the Cape to provide materials for the restoration. 12 people plus a Skyworks helicopter and crew helped to transport all the materials, including the four tonnes of garnet needed to blast off the paint. All equipment and materials were helicoptered from a Fullers Barge to the Cape Brett Site .... more

It was the good workmen of Whangarei that drew the Rainbow Warrior II back to Port Road’s dry-dock for a spruce up. The Greenpeace ship was hauled to shore on Saturday, and is currently having rust sandblasted and a shiny new coat of paint applied by Whangarei sandblasting firm Rudolphs... more
